BigMax Story - A Brief History

We’ve come a long way since we first opened our doors in 1990!!!!!!

Yet Technocrane’s roots go back in time to the early 60’s when Todd Slobogean, CEO, founder and visionary of Technocrane, began his career in the truck equipment industry. Hydraulic cranes, for that matter hydraulics, were still in their infancy and mechanical lifting devices utilizing gears, drive shafts, chains and sprockets were the norm.

For over 25 years, with a passion for design and engineering, in relentless search of the perfect solution, the ultimate product, Todd served the industry in every capacity from sales and service, to engineering and marketing.

Quick to accept, adopt and even improve on a new product, he was instrumental in the formation and growth of several key companies and introduced many products into our market that are considered commonplace today.

Following a realignment of suppliers in the late 80’s, and a broadening acceptance of European truck cranes, Technocrane was formed in 1990 to supply innovative products and cutting edge crane equipment, often procured from small innovative firms in Europe, to equipment dealers, body builders and other OEM’s.

During the next 10 years several previously unknown cranes were introduced and firmly established in Canada and the United States.

Technocrane’s next growth opportunity presented itself in the early 2000’s. Many European manufactured cranes were becoming price-prohibitive due to the rising Euro and American technology was retaking a lead in these models. The timing was right for Technocrane to complete the development of their BIGMAX® crane line. BIGMAX® is the registered trade name for a new family of cranes introduced by Technocrane from 2005 to 2007 that incorporated features, some patented, offered for the first time ever.

Today Technocrane’s expertise is also sought out internationally, especially by the new economies of Asia. As a result, important sales have been made to China, Indonesia, as well as Mexico, the West Indies, the Middle East, Central and South America.
